Version 2.3, in addition to running on the SGI workstations, has
now been ported to the Sun, Hewlett Packard, and PC-based Linux workstations.
Several graphics libraries were employed to accomplish this. The SGI versions are available using either the OpenGL
or Mesa libraries; for the Sun, versions using XGL, OpenGL or Mesa libraries
are available; and for the others, the Mesa
library is used. Use of the
by Brian Paul, formerly of the University of Wisconsin, results in a
completely X Windows-based version which can be executed on a UNIX
workstation, and operated from an X Windows terminal, or X Servers on the
Windows 95 platforms.
NOTE: LinkWinds was compiled with the
static Mesa libraries and DOES NOT require the users to have Mesa
installed on their workstations.
CAUTION - Since there are so
many flavors of HPs, Suns, Sun graphics cards, Linux kernels and PC
graphics boards, and our ability to acquire many of them is limited,
you may encounter problems we haven't seen. If you find problems,
such as strange colors and display characteristics, please let us know
so that we can correct them.
If you have never had a LinkWinds installation before, you
are strongly urged to also order the sample data sets.

An html version of the documentation is bundled in the executable code packages. You should replace the copy of setup_lw in your distribution with this one (Right click or "Save As" to save it, please).
The LinkWinds version 2.3 executable packages are provided compressed
using either the UNIX compression facility, or gzip.
